Sailfish: The Fastest Fish in the Ocean

Pacific sailfish hit speeds up to 68 mph and put on the most spectacular show in blue water: tail-walking runs, full jumps, and the raised dorsal sail as they charge a teaser. The Central Pacific coast produces some of the highest sailfish release numbers in the world, and during peak season hot days can push past 50 bites.

Dorado: Color, Chaos, and Dinner

Dorado are the opposite personality. They average 15 to 40 pounds, travel in schools, and feed with total aggression around anything floating. When our captains find a debris line holding fish, it can turn into an hour of nonstop hookups, and because dorado are legal to keep, your group goes home with some of the best-eating fish in the Pacific.

We troll the current edges to find them, then slow down and work the structure. When fish are visible at the surface, anglers cast live bait or lures straight at them, and the strikes happen in plain view. When to Book for Each

December through April: sailfish peak overlapping the dry season and the Los Suenos Triple Crown tournament months (January, February, March). Dorado still around from the early-year run.
May through August: mixed offshore fishing. Sailfish taper, blue marlin and big yellowfin tuna pick up, and dorado stage ahead of their peak.
September through November: dorado peak. The debris lines load up, and sailfish numbers start climbing again toward December.
